Why This Why Now

Why this? Why now?

A quick search on fatherhood will show you that many people are already talking about it. There are pages upon pages of search results for any fatherhood topic or question you might have.

How do I know? I remember having questions before I became a dad, searching for answers, and feeling like what I found fell short. I felt like I went into fatherhood blind.

The good advice I got from my own father and other trusted dads was all kind of the same: "Kids are the best," "Enjoy every moment; it goes by too fast," "Get as much sleep before they're born as you can!"

I think there’s truth in each of those statements, but they fell so, so short of equipping and preparing me to be a father.

So, over the past two years, I've been learning what it means to be a father through trial and error. That’s where Work Hard Dad Hard came from.

I feel like what’s missing from the fatherhood and parenting conversation are practical lessons and advice that can be applied in everyday life as a father.

Work Hard Dad Hard is my attempt to begin filling that gap.

Now, let me set a couple of things straight:

1. I don’t believe I have everything figured out. That would be very arrogant of me. While I do think I’ve learned a lot of things that can help dads in the midst of fatherhood, my experience is not the same as everyone else’s.

2. There are some great resources out there already. I do think I bring a unique perspective, but I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel. When I find a good recommendation, I’ll share it.

3. You’re joining me on this journey. There are many seasons of parenting and fatherhood I haven’t experienced yet. I’ll be sharing new insights I gain as I go through those seasons and inviting others who have already gone before me to share their wisdom too.

So, if you’re about to become a dad and have no idea what to expect, you're in the right place. If you’re already a dad and realize you have no idea what you’ve gotten into, you’re also in the right place.

It’s time to work hard and dad hard!
